Scarcity

Updated: August 30, 2010

Many of the books that appear in my listings are described as “SCARCE” or “RARE”.

In the course of over 50 years of activity in the comic book market-place, I have found that there are 2 forms of comic book scarcity.

  1. BOOK SCARCITY: Many of the books that I have designated as “SCARCE”------ are hard to find simply because very FEW copies actually EXIST ………. meaning that only a small number of copies [for a variety of reasons] have SURVIVED [ example: All American #16 ].

  2. MARKET SCARCITY: All other books that I have designated as “SCARCE” ----- are hard to find simply because the market DEMAND exceeds the market SUPPLY…… meaning that the vast majority of copies that exist are being held and are not for sale [example: Crime Suspense Stories #22].

All “RARE” comics are just “SCARCE” to a greater degree.
